Cleona Hawley-Blakley Obituary

CLEONA R. (HAWLEY) BLAKELY was born on June 13, 1955, to loving
parents, Ruth Hawley and Daniel Hawley. She was one of five siblings and the
eldest of four daughters. Her family nickname, “Nonie,” came from a little boy at
Mary B. Martin Playground. When he couldn’t say the name Cleona, he called her
Nonie. She attended John Hay High School and later attended East Technical High
School, where she graduated in 1973.
Cleona worked for the Cuyahoga County Department of Senior and Adult Services
for twenty years, winning awards and commendations for her years of service and
hard work.
In 2014, Cleona received her associate’s degree from Bryant & Stratton College in
the field of Medical Billing and Coding.
Unfortunately, before Cleona could achieve her dream occupation, she became ill.
Cleona’s battle with illness was long and exhausting, but she always kept a smile on
her face and positivity in her soul.
On July 18, 2021, she smiled one last time as the Lord called her Home into His
arms.
Cleona was very passionate throughout her life. She was passionate about typing
poetry, reading books, and playing computer games. She enjoyed playing cards
games like Spades, Hearts, and Bid Whist. She loved to travel whenever she could.
She loved to cook, attend family gatherings, smile, and have a good time. She was
indeed the life of every party she attended.
She devoutly attended Second New Hope Baptist Church every Sunday to praise
the Heavenly Father and partake in her faithful Communion.
She was preceded in death by: son, James; sibling, Juanita; and nephew, Quandale.
She is survived by: two children, Saul and Jamareo; siblings, Jerald(Carla), Diane,
and Mae; four grandchildren, Nicole, Saul, Sean, and Dana; one aunt, Dorothy of
Detroit, Michigan; her best friends, Rosa and Reyvonne; her nieces and nephews,
Earnest, Tomika, Yahana, Donald(Allie), Tony, Mike(Teresa), Foy, Martale, Alvin;
and so many other family members and friends.
Today we all come together to celebrate an individual with the biggest heart of gold
that ever existed. We will miss her.
