The world became a little less bright on October 6, 2025, with the passing of Roland Darnell Beavers Sr.. Born on March 2, 1948 in Dayton, OH to Louise "Texana" Williams (deceased) and Rev. Harold Beavers (deceased). Roland was the oldest of 3 children. His brother Dwight (deceased) and his sister Rashedha. Roland's legacy is one of integrity, resilience, and love.
At a young age, Roland and his mother relocated to the Hough neighborhood in Cleveland, OH. Roland was a graduate of East Tech High School whom he represented proudly to the day of his passing. Shortly after graduation, Roland married his first wife (Josephine) and they created 2 baby boys, Roland Jr. and Roman. Ever since he was a child, he loved praise and worship songs and sang in his church choir. At the age of 26, he began a path to Ministry under the late James Boyd, Pastor of Prayer Temple Church of God in Christ in Cleveland, OH. At the age of 28 he met his 2nd wife Loretta Davis and her daughter Selina. Approximately 2 years later they were married and a year later they had a son together and named him Keith.
Roland spent his career as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, solving problems with precision and care. He retired as the General Manager. At home, he was a loving father to four children and a supportive husband to his wife, Loretta, of 47 years. Roland's advice was sought by many, and his calm presence was a source of comfort to all who knew him.
Roland was a dedicated family man, a supportive friend, and a respected community leader. in 1996, along with his wife he became the co-founder of the Rolling Thunder Youth Bowling program. Within 2 years, Rolling Thunder became the largest youth bowling program in the state of Ohio serving more than 250 families every Saturday for 25-30 weeks each year. For the entire time as a Rolling Thunder Director, Roland never took a dollar for pay. Everything he did for the Rolling Thunder youth over the years was out of the kindness of his heart. He had the unique ability to treat every child that came into the program as if they were one of his own. He helped put food on tables, helped pay private school tuitions, helped put clothes on students backs. He attended countless prom/homecoming send-offs, graduations, music recitals and other events that he was invited to by the students. Roland also spent time as an officer for the United States Bowling Congress and The National Bowling Association. He traveled around the country to several events and meetings to not only make sure he represented the youth, but he represented the entire bowling community as a whole. Roland’s passion for bowling and his commitment to his community will never be forgotten.
Roland is survived by his wife Loretta; four children Selina Ray, Roland Beavers Jr. (Deceased), Roman Beavers, and Keith Beavers; Sister Rashedha Carroll, Dwight Carroll (deceased), daughter-in-law Sharyn Beavers, son-in-law Richard Ray. Step-Sister Doretha Hutchins; God-Daughters, Tehlia Cephus, Latia Grimes and Leah Grimes; Grandson D'Quan Wilcox, Great Grandson D'Quan Wilcox Jr.
