Rebecca Cooper Obituary

Rebecca Cooper, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. Born on April 3, 1939, in Greensboro, Alabama, Rebecca was the beloved daughter of Lula Winters and James Chavers, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Hale County High School before moving to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 18, where she began building the life and legacy that her family cherishes today.

It was in Cleveland Ohio that Rebecca met the love of her life, David Cooper, while working at Sweet Clean Laundry. Their union blossomed into more than 50 years of marriage.

Rebecca was the proud mother of three children:

•             Anthony Cooper, whose children are Fred Robertson, Sheena Rencher, Sharmikka Cooper, Shannon Cooper, Symone (Terrance) Burrell, and Anthony Cooper

•             Gardenia Jenkins, whose children are Michael (Tiesha)Brown, Narissa (Scott) Janda, and Darius Murphy

•             Shirley (Britton) Hill, and her son Ronald Askew

Her family continued to grow through generations, blessing her with 10 grandchildren, 13 great‑grandchildren, and 2 great‑great‑grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

Rebecca dedicated 25 years of her life to caring for others in the health care field, a profession that reflected her compassion, patience, and quiet strength. In the final years before her retirement, she continued serving her community as an event planner for a senior citizens facility, bringing joy, organization, and warmth to the lives of many.

A woman of deep love and resilience, Rebecca balanced the demands of her career with raising a strong family. She instilled in her children the values of hard work, self‑belief, and the conviction that they could achieve anything they set their minds to. Though naturally introverted, she was fiercely protective of her children and grandchildren—her love for them was bold, unwavering, and unmistakable.

In retirement, Rebecca found peace and fulfillment in the simple joys of life. She loved crafting, gardening, and spending time surrounded by her family. Her presence was gentle yet powerful, and her kindness left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Until her passing, Rebecca remained a source of inspiration—steady, loving, and strong. She will be remembered as a protector, a nurturer, and the quiet heart of her family.

Her legacy lives on in the generations she shaped with her wisdom, her example, and her enduring love.
