Sommer “Samuel” Lee Jones 01-25-1959-09-26-2023 Sam was the 4th child of 10 children born to the late Elzera and John Jones Sr. on January 25, 1959. Sam was baptized on December 4th, 2013, at First Greater New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Later he moved his membership to Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Sam attended the Cleveland Public School, Nathan Hale. Sam worked various jobs. With being handy, his favorite pastime was fixing bikes. He would always ride on the handlebars backward. Sam was also the neighborhood barber. Sam was very protective of his children. He was a different kind of father. Sam used to braid all of his daughter's hair and cut his son's hair for school. It didn’t matter if they attended different schools, he walked them every day. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his children. Teaching them to protect themselves to riding a bike. Sam was street-smart. Sam was a strong man; he faced his illness like the Incredible Hulk. He didn’t let anything stop him. When someone asked how he was doing he would always say "I'm alright, so far" or "I'm taking it one day at a time. He was determined to live. He would say I am not changing for anybody. “Yeah, I can take an L, but can you give me one”. This dude could fight. Sam was an awesome singer and an amazing dancer; we called him Michael Jackson when he danced. When he sang, we would call him Gerald and Eddie Levert. That boy could sing! On East 30th, Sam was known as Uncle Sam by everyone. The young men in the neighborhood would turn to him for life advice. Sam came across many people, and he never met a stranger. Sam has three brothers and three sisters that preceded him in death. John Jr., James, Dennis, Wanda, Denise, and Brenda Jones. Sam’s name was being called, he heard it and answered that call on September 26, 2023, at 3:20 a.m. Sam leaves to mourn his fighting legacy his companion of 27 years, Shirley Gaston, and 7 daughters, Mia, Elzera, Lashawnda, Aiesha, Kanesha, Tanesha, and Danesha.
